Community Spotlight: Skywood Recovery Center

Inspire Therapy owner, Lauren Hybza, teamed up with Skywood Recovery’s Michelle Ciaramellano to discuss their programming and facilities. Read more about this community spotlight and recovery resources.

Skywood Recovery Center is a full-service addiction treatment center located on 30 acres of serene landscape. Each patient’s recovery and introduction to sober living is housed in quaint outdoor cabins. Skywood is based in Augusta, Michigan for their residential program, with outpatient locations in Royal Oak, Lansing and their newest location in Grand Rapids. Skywood Recovery is an entity of the Foundations Recovery Network (FRN), a national network of treatment that focused on evidence-based and patient-centered treatment for over 20 years and 11 facilities across the US.

What types of services does Skywood offer?

Ciaramellano reports ideal programming for patients to fall under these four programs; detox, residential, partial hospitalization program and intensive outpatient treatment. Upon discharge from these programs, Skywood then coordinates their patients to have follow up care in their hometowns. Referring to local outpatient therapy support, like Inspire Therapy, can be a critical part of sustaining recovery.

Ciaramellano clarifies that “detox involves medical support while individuals stay separately from the main treatment population, to support closer monitoring by nursing and medical staff. Individuals in detox do not participate in groups initially, so they are able to focus on detox, which is really hard enough. Once they are medically cleared, they are then integrated into residential programming.”

She states use of healthy nutrition prepared proudly by their personal chef, yoga therapy, equine therapy, AA, SMART recovery, Dharma recovery, and gender neutral programs, along with individual therapy and monthly family therapy for their patients.

Will my treatment be covered by insurance?

Ciaramellano reports most major insurances will cover the costs of treatment. Skywood staff will assist patients in understanding and verifying their benefits for free.

Private pay is also an option. Costs of long term substance use can easily outweigh the costs of treatment, which is important to remember when investing in yourself.

I don’t have transportation to get to Skywood, can you help me with that?

Hybza explains to Ciaramellano that a major barrier for many in the northern Michigan area is unreliable transportation. This is a #1 reason Hybza hears that clients report inability to attend a rehab facility. Therefore, Hybza asks if transportation can be provided by Skywood Recovery Center. The answer is yes. A peer specialist or other staff member could support that need.

Conclusion

Ciaramellano acknowledges that life after rehab can be triggering for those navigating the foreign world of recovery. This is why working with outpatient providers for follow up care is a critical part of successful discharge for patients healing their addictions. Inspire Therapy is proud to be a collaborative partner with Skywood and offer community support to clients looking to inspire change in their lives.
