1. What made you want to become a therapist?
I first entered the world of mental health when my oldest son was diagnosed on the autism spectrum.  It started with independent study, but the more I learned the more I was drawn to working in the mental health field.  Once I learned there was a counseling program in Traverse City it just seemed like a natural choice at that time.

2. What types of clients have you worked with so far in your career?
I have worked in multiple Community Mental Health settings where I was able to work with clients who presented with a wide variety of needs. We have helped people with anxiety, depression, emotion dysregulation, and trauma.  However, I specialized working with neurodivergent clients who struggle with symptoms associated with Autism or ADHD.  I have also worked extensively with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.

3. What areas of mental health are you passionate about?
I am most passionate about advocating for neurodiversity.  There is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding of what it means to be on the autism spectrum, or how ADHD can impact a person's life.

4. How do you practice your own self care?
Other than spending time with my family, I enjoy traveling getting to see more of the world.  I also spend time in my mancave which is setup in a 1980's retro style.

5. What’s the most rewarding thing about being a therapist?
There is a moment in a person's life when they take stock and decide that they want to change. That is a very powerful and personal moment, and it is usually when a person decides to do therapy.  As a therapist you get to share in that moment and be part of that change.  It is very inspiring.

6. What do you want your clients to know about working with you?
In therapy there are many different paths that lead to a person's goals.  As a therapist I will help find a path using evidence-based techniques to customize a therapeutic approach that works best for you.
